State Government eyes Texas Livestock Owners as revenue source of the future.
After speaking with a number of TAHC employees, Commissioners and folks that are in the know, it has become apparent that our state government has issued a mandate of some type to the Texas Animal Health Commission. This mandate is to generate revenue for the state general fund.
We all have been trying to figure out why TAHC is rushing just as fast as possible to adopt mandatory premises registration with tagging and tracking to quickly follow when USDA has backed off with its own implementation of NAIS program till at least 2009.
The Commission is seizing the moment, using issues of public safety, animal health and bio terrorism to implement a plan to collect tax revenue in the form of premises registration fees. The really scary unknown is, how much TAX a head will it cost after they DEMAND you tag your animals.
