LMA of Texas supports voluntary ID over mandatory program

Saying they are for “efficient and effective animal disease prevention and controls,” the LMA of Texas last weekend voted to support a voluntary premise “and/or animal ID program supported by producers.” At its annual meeting, the state marketing group said it “in no way supports the mandatory national animal ID program as currently proposed.”

The resolution also noted that the group “is FOR the continuing education of all livestock producers with sound management and record keeping practice(s) to safeguard food safety and animal health,” and for “the production of safe meat products for every consumer in the United States and the world.”

The state of Texas passed legislation calling for premises ID. However, producer protests have indefinitely delayed the regulations that would implement the bill.
